How to Get Free Skype Unlimited International Calls

Skype is a well known voip provider. It is seen that whenever people are introduced to the world of voip and cheap calling (both voice and video), first thing they try out is Skype. Time to time it brings such lucrative offers which are really very hard to resist. Good news is that Skype is back again with such an offer, giving you FREE Unlimited Calling for an entire month.

Skype to Skype calls are already free, so if you and your friend are already using Skype then you both can talk/video chat/message to each other for free (provided you both are online on Skype client). But what about making calls to those offline contacts on their mobile or landline phones. Skype normally charges for those calls. But with this new Skype offer you can even make calls (rather unlimited calls) to these mobiles and landlines for free and that too for entire one month.

How to get One Month Free WorldWide Calls with Skype

- Click here to visit Skype offer page
- Click on “Claim your free month
- Login/ Signup to get Get Skype Free 1 Month Unlimited World Subscription

Things are not to so straight forward in life and this one month unlimited world subscription plan by Skype has its own conditions. Lets find out both pros and cons of this plan. (I am talking about features of this plan and its associated terms and conditions).

Pros
- One month of free unlimited calls which are worth 10.49 euros.
- Calls to mobiles in seven countries including Canada, Guam, Hong Kong S.A.R. China, Puerto Rico, Singapore, Thailand and United States.
- Free Calls to landlines in over 40 countries : Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Chile, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Russia (Moscow and St. Petersburg only), Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, United Kingdom and Venezuela
- You can cancel the plan anytime you want.

Cons
- Trial must be redeemed by 15/11/2012. Offer available only to existing Skype users who have been registered with Skype more than 29 days.
- To qualify for the offer, you must provide valid payment details (they will charge $1 for checking account purposes). So you require a credit card here.
- After the first month, your subscription will automatically continue and payments will be taken monthly unless you cancel within 27 days of the start date. Only one free Unlimited World subscription can be claimed per customer.
- Excludes special, premium and non-geographic numbers.

The best part about Skype is that they have application (client) for almost all devices. If you have a smartphone (be it iPhone, Android, Blackberry, Nokia, Windows based or any other), Skype has an app for you. Even if you do not have any smartphone, then also you can use Skype on your computer.

Cheaper than Skype Calls : Voip App for Android and iPhone

I had been using Skype for quite a long time now, no doubt it is one of the best voip provider. Skype is still most widely used voip provider and quite famous for all those video calls. But what about making calls to non skype users (calls to normal mobile or landline phones). Well Skype charges a lot of money for that and I don't want spend so much on my phone bills.

To let you know I have both Android Mobile and iPhone so if I can get an app for either android or iphone or both, using which I can make cheap international calls then it will be just great. I straightaway started searching google play store for such applications. And no surprise, I found one app with named "Voip - Call Cheaper than Skype". Well the name is exactly what was I looking for, so is my search came to an end ?

First I need to check more details about this app. Some interesting things which I found (and are worth sharing).

- Rates are 67% cheaper than Skype
- Cheap VOIP calls over Wifi
- International calls has never been that cheap.
- Using Wifi, call directly from your cellphone / mobile phone without using your "minutes", without any roaming fee.
- No connection fees
- Cheap calling app #1 in Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Kuwait and many more countries.
- This app is very popular where calls are expensive like in arabic / middle east countries like Oman, Saudia Arabia, United Arab Emirates / UAE, Egypt, Kuwait.
- This App is based on CSipSimple and is licensed under GNU GPL v3.

So the things which are of interest was "it uses Wifi to make calls" and they claim rates to be very cheap. I still need to confirm the second point (about rates).

To check the rates I was asked to visit "roamaside.com" (the voip service who has developed this application). Well, I found that it has an application for iPhone users as well. And and and, it offers some free trial credit as well.

Cheaper than Skype

Calling Rates

- India at 2 cents per min
- Philippines at 10 cents per min

- Another Skype Alternative : Tribair Voip

Some other points which I found at roamaside

- Your RoamAside credits will expire 6 months after purchase. If you make a new purchase prior to the expiration date of the unused credits, the expiration date for all credits will be extended for another 6 months.
- You can make incredibly affordable calls to landline and mobile phones worldwide. Just make sure you formatted the number in an international format, e.g.12125551234 for US phone number.
- You can also make calls over 3G. On iphone, it is on by default and it is a phone general setting.
To deactivate the 3G network you must be in airplane mode or in General -> Network : Disable 3G.
-  On android, calls over 3G are not permitted by default. To allow them, go in RoamAside Menu and settings : Use data plan.

Well that is not all, I do not start using the any app without noticing its reviews. The reviews on android market are sort of good for this app. It is rated 4.3 with 755 people giving 5 star rating. Few bad ones are.
Doesn't work on my Samsung tab 7.7
How do you wanna me to buy credit before i try the service..10 cents is not enough anyway thank you
Bought a 20 USD subscription but did not credited. This application sucks!

Well people have given positive ratings and call rates are also cheap but that does not mean I can risk my money. I will try this service buying with minimum credit and will check if it works for me or not. If you were also looking for some solution offering cheaper calls then Skype, then you can also try this app.

Download VoipR : Make Cheap International Calls and Save Phone Bills

Its time for another voip provider by Dellmont sarl (the very old betamax voip provider), which is quite famous for offering very cheap calling rates. Many people have successfully used betamax, however many other complained about betamax increasing the rates without notice. If you remember Rynga, ActionVoip, WellCallDirect all these are services by betamax. Things may have changed in terms of their service and now we have a new service by dellmont sarl, named VoipR.

Lets just hope voipR will hold onto its calling rates and provide a good service. Using voipR is pretty simple and straight forward. You just need to download the voipR application on your smartphone, register with them, buy some voipR points and start making calls. Calling rates are also very competitive. But one thing to be noted is that the application is possible only for Android or iPhone. Also make sure to check with their customer support, as betamax has very bad reputation for its customer support.

VoipR Calling Rates
- 100 VoipR points for $0.99
- 200 VoipR points for $1.99
- 400 VoipR points for $3.99
- 700 VoipR points for $5.99
- 1500 VoipR points for $11.99

Calling Rates to :
- India at 2 points per min
- Pakistan at 18 voipr points per min
- Bangladesh at 5 voipr points per min
- USA at 1 voipr per min
- Mexico at 1 voipr per min

VoipR Application
- Download VoipR for Android
- Download VoipR for iPhone

Some other VoipR Features :
- Call any country and save on mobile calling charges
- Unlock secret achievements to earn free points
- Gather as much free VoipR points as possible

If you have an iPhone or android mobile, then voipR can prove to be a good choice for you. The call rates to India comes at about 2 cents per min (which is not the best rate but very competitive).

What is a Blocked Call or Unknown Caller on Cell Phone

Few days back, I started getting lot of phone calls on my mobile (sometime once or twice a day) with a number that showed up "Unknown Caller" or sometimes as "Private Number". Though I didn't responded to that phone call, but it still bothers me. I want to know who's calling me up again and again and disturbing me. Does the above scenario looks familiar to you, Have you faced the same situation before, if yes then read on.

So I finally googled what exactly are these unknown caller on my mobile with no number. I really wanted to trace that phone call. To my surprise, I was not alone receiving these types of phone calls where nothing is displayed as phone number. Many people were receiving such private number phone calls on their iphone, android, even landlines. These were what people call as "blocked phone calls".

Next obvious question was "What exactly is this blocked phone calls". "How do people make such kind of private number calls" (I don't want to make them but I wanted to know). And finally how can I trace them (know who is making such calls)...

A 'blocked number' means that the caller has their caller ID with-held. In simple words, caller does not want to show his caller id while making this call and has withheld his number.

Blocked Call

For landlines, it's an option which is set with the telco. On mobiles, it is easily adjusted on the mobile handset. Home phones, people who like their privacy and institutions occasionally have their caller ID with-held.

You can make private calls by putting 141 before a number you dial or most mobiles have an option of withholding your number.

More useful information which I found on internet :
Remember the iPhone will show "blocked" but other phones show "withheld" or "private" etc. "blocked caller" is showing on your iPhone as the person who calls you is either hiding their number with the 1831 override code or has their number set to not show when dialing out, or they are ringing from a work phone which has outbound call numbers blocked via pabx as well. The iPhone allows you to hide your number when dialing out – the Police, Ambulance, Fire Brigades will always see your number.
Next thing which I wanted to how to know the caller id.
As this thing is quite common, so the solution was not difficult at all. There are many services which offer the unmasking service and can easily unblock such calls to show the caller id.
The most common and most widely used service was TrapCall.

Without going into details, I found this review about trapcall very useful.
It works for most telecom services in USA and Canada. Trapcall plans are very cheap and affordable. For me it was just one month cost (I discontinued the service once I was done with this thing).
I straight away purchased the cheapest plan and voila it worked.

I was able to find out who was calling me. Aaahhh... it was my buddy who was just trying to have some fun!

How to use Gmail to Send Free SMS to India Mobile

No we are not talking about Google Voice, instead we are referring to the old gmail chat feature. I am not sure that many of you are aware that you can send sms from gmail chat window itself to mobile phones. This feature by Google Chat was earlier restricted to only USA but now the support has been extended. And now you can use Gmail chat window to send free text message to just any phone in India.

You can use this to send sms to your contacts mobile phones using Gmail chat. If you want to send sms to a new number (Who is not in your contact list), then simply add it as a contact. Anways we will show the steps with some images.

The SMS service is not only available in India and but 51 other countries in Asia, Africa and North America. The best part is that it works for all mobile operators in the country.

As mobile companies charge a lot for sms, so using your computer to send text messages highly popular, as it is quite easy to use plus its free. We have also been fan of such a great feature and many a times posted some really good websites offering this feature. If you missed out earlier, then just check our earlier post on list of website offering free text message to mobiles.

How to use Gmail to send SMS to Indian Mobiles

1. Sign in to your chat window.
2. In the "search chat or SMS" bar, just enter the phone number as shown in the image below.

Gmail Send Free SMS India

3. Select Send SMS.
4. If the number is in your contact, then it will show the contact else it will ask you to add it as a contact.

 Gmail Save Contact

5. It will then open up a small chat window. Just type your message and hit send.
6. You will be charged with 1 sms credit for each message.

Gmail Chat Send SMS
Google initially provides free SMS credit of 50 messages for each user. For every message sent, users' credit would decrease by one. However, this credit would increase by five every time a user responds to the text message by sending a return message. In case, the SMS credit limit slashes down to zero, one credit would increase automatically after 24 hours. Google said users can also 'buy' SMS credit in case of shortage by sending a text message to their own phone and then by replying to that message.

We have tried it and it actually works and it works just great. Sms reaches to the destination within few seconds, its pretty fast. Lets see when Google Starts offering free calls to Indian Mobiles as well.

This free sms feature will work from Google Chat application for Android other devices where Gchat works. If you have an smartphone then you can use these free sms and save on mobile operator bill.

Please try this feature and let us know your feedback.

How to take Whatsapp History Backup on iPhone, Android, Blackberry : Recover Old Chats

If you have any smartphone be it iPhone, Android, Blackberry, Windows or Nokia Mobile, then you must be using Whatsapp on it. Its such a great application and has helped me save so much money on my phone bills (my text messages via mobile operator has almost reduced by 95%). Chatting with friends, sending jokes, or sharing pictures and videos, Whatsapp is so much fun.

I particularly like the group chat feature and message broadcast. Another good thing about whatsapp is that chat history remains as it is. I can see my previous messages as well. But what if you accidentally delete the chat history (what we call the whatsapp history) and it just disappears. That will be quite annoying, its like all my messages got deleted (I can't afford that). There has to be some way in order to get back those messages. The question is how can I backup/restore my whatsapp history.

If you are new to whatsapp, then its high time that you check out Whatsapp Messenger application for your smartphone. Its a must have app for every mobile. And if you don't have any smartphone, then you should start using this cool application on your computer.

Whatsapp Recover Old Chat History

But before we go into details of restoring the chat history. Lets first see, how it can get deleted.

1. Selectively deleting a particular message of a particular chat.
Go to the particular chat (where you want to delete a message). Tap and hold the message (one message), and delete will appear in popup. Select that.

2. Delete a particular chat (with one friend).
Go to the conversation (chat with that friend). Click more icon, and select "clear messages".

3. Delete Whatsapp (all chats with all friends).
Click more (adjacent to settings), and select "clear all messages". It will delete everything, every whatsapp chat.

Aahh...and now how to get this all back.

Backup of Whatsapp Chat on Android Mobile

WhatsApp automatically makes backups every 24 hours and stores them on the microSD memory card of your Android phone. To restore the most recent back up, you will need to delete and reinstall WhatsApp. If you need to restore older messages, check out "Restoring older (less recent) backups". During the installation process, you will be prompted to restore your message history. Choose yes to restore your missing chats. Now those chats that you once thought lost should be in your WhatsApp chats menu.
  • There are only up to 7 days worth of backup files
  • Any new messages sent/received after a backup, and deleted before the next backup, cannot be restored.
  • If you run a manual backup, it will overwrite the most recent automatic backup file.
  • If you do not want to lose your current history (newest messages), create a manual backup.
  • This manual backup file will be saved as "msgstore.db.crypt" in your /sdcard/WhatsApp/Databases folder. Save this file as "msgstore.db.crypt.current" so you do not get it confused with other backup files during the restoration process.

Restoring Whatsapp Chat History on iPhone

Since your WhatsApp conversation history is not stored on the servers, they cannot retrieve any deleted messages for you. However, Apple does provide a process that allows you to retrieve deleted data. If you synced your iPhone to iTunes or iCloud, you may be able to retrieve your information. To prevent losing your chats, you can email yourself the chat history if you would like to save a conversation:
- Load WhatsApp
- Go to Settings Scroll to the bottom and select "Email Chat History"
- From the "Chat History" screen, select the conversation you would like to save.
- Select if you want to "Attach Media" or email the conversation "Without Media".
- Enter your email address and hit send!

Whatsapp History on Blackberry

- It automatically does not get stored. First of all you have to activate message history archiving in the settings menu. You can turn message history off or save it to the media card. And then history can be easily browsed in the chat window by scrolling to the top and click "View earlier messages". Please note that this only works if you have media card installed on your phone.

Retrieving Whatsapp History on Nokia

The best way to keep your chat history safe is to just select the email the conversation to yourself. This works on almost all mobiles (where whatsapp work) and will work for Nokia Mobiles as well.

What is Android Eclipse : Download Eclipse for Android Development ?

Sometime back, we blogged about Installing Android Emulator on your computer. We mentioned how installing this emulator will help you try and play around the android application directly on your personal computer without the need of a mobile. However that tutorial will not be complete unless we teach you something about Android Eclipse and how it will be helpful for you in android development.

This post will help you learn about Eclipse, ADT. At the end of this post, you should be able to answer "What is Android Eclipse", "What is ADT", What is required in order to develop my own android apps, "How can you develop Android Apps and try that on emulator"... If you are not interested on android app development, then this post won't be helpful to you.

What is Eclipse in Android ?
It is basically an open source IDE (integrated development environment) for Java projects. Its the place where you create and craft the software applications, being supported through various stages of its lifecycle. Google officially supports Eclipse IDE, and has created the Android Development Tools plugin for Eclipse and integrated its AVD Manager virtual device management into the tool as well. In short, you not just create any other software (Java App) but you create Android Oriented apps and these can be easily be tested on android emulators (virtual device). You can create Android APK using this!

What is ADT in Android ?
ADT (Android Developer Tools) is a plugin for Eclipse that provides a suite of tools that are integrated with the Eclipse IDE. It offers you access to many features that help you develop Android applications quickly. ADT provides GUI access to many of the command line SDK tools as well as a UI design tool for rapid prototyping, designing, and building of your application's user interface.
Because ADT is a plugin for Eclipse, you get the functionality of a well-established IDE, along with Android-specific features that are bundled with ADT.
Tutorial on this : http://developer.android.com/tools/help/adt.html

Where to Download Eclipse ?
If you need to install Eclipse, you can download it from http://www.eclipse.org/downloads/. It is recommended that you install the "Eclipse Classic" version.

Downloading the Android ADT ?
Google themselves provide a very nice step by step tutorial about ADT. Just follow these simple steps listed in :
http://developer.android.com/sdk/installing/installing-adt.html#Download

What else required to develop android apps ?
Well even though have developed the apps, still want to test them. You would need Android Emulator to test these applications. We have already written a tutorial on that. Check the below link :
http://www.freepctophonecallsblog.com/2012/10/how-to-install-android-emulator-on.html

How to Install Android Emulator on Laptop, Windows PC, Computer

Though the task of installing android emulator on your personal computer is quite simple and just few steps, however a step by step tutorial (with images) is always very helpful. In this post, we will teach you how you can run android emulator on your laptop or your Desktop (PC).

You will find many such tutorials on the internet, however most of them provide either too much information and very little information. Some of them which are helpfup are outdated (quite old as things have changed now). So hope this will be helpful to you guys. Please note that this tutorial is based on assumption that your computer OS is windows. In short, learn how to run android apps on windows based computer.

What you can achieve with Android Emulator on your comp :
- If you don't have android device, you can still enjoy the apps by android emulator on PC.
- Your phone may be still running Froyo or may be Donut, but you can enjoy the latest Android Operating System (Android 4.1) on the emulator. Get a feel of it before actually using it on your mobile.
- Be creative, make your own Android Apps and try them on emulator.
- Run apps like Viber on your computer, which do not have any app for pc. This way make free calls from pc to mobile. We already have posted about this in a separate tutorial.
http://www.freepctophonecallsblog.com/2010/12/viber-for-pc-how-to-use-viber-on-your.html

Tutorial Starts
- Create a google account. Skip this step if you already have one. This is will be required when downloading Google Android and accessing Google Play store.
- Download Java on your computer if not previously installed. Follow this link.
- You need to get Android SDK. The Android SDK provides you the API libraries and developer tools necessary to build, test, and debug apps for Android.
- Download Android SDK from this link

What is Android SDK ?
- A software development kit that enables developers to create applications for the Android platform. The Android SDK includes sample projects with source code, development tools, an emulator, and required libraries to build Android applications.

Next Step...
- Install the SDK Tools.
- The installer then saves the Android SDK Tools into a default location (or you can specify the location). Make a note of the name and location of the SDK directory on your system — you will need to refer to the SDK directory later, when setting up the ADT plugin and when using the SDK tools from the command line. Once the tools are installed, the installer offers to start the Android SDK Manager.
- It will show the list of OS (which Android OS to be downloaded (along with Source Code)). Its like you need to decide which Android (Froyo, Donut, ICE etc).. you want to run on your laptop.
- Choose the latest "Android 4.1 (API 16)" and click on install package. On the new window that pops up, select accept all and install. It will take some time.

Eclipse Plugin...
At this step, you need to decide whether to go for Eclipse Plugin or not. It will be required if you want to develop apps for android.
We will be writing a separate tutorial on this Eclipse Plguin and ADT.

What Next...
- After Android OS emulator has been installed. Click on "Tools" Option, and select "Manage AVDs".
- A new window will pop up. On the right hand side (as explained in image), click "New". AVD is simply Android Virtual Drive (or android emulator drive on computer).
 - In the target option, select the OS package which you have just download. In this case "Android 4.1", select installer package size as "512". Click "Create AVD". Accept everything (ok) in the pop up window.

What is AVD ?
An Android Virtual Device (AVD) is an emulator configuration that lets you model an actual device by defining hardware and software options to be emulated by the Android Emulator. You can create as many AVDs as you need, based on the types of device you want to model.
Check the below link on Guide on Android Virtaul Device :
http://developer.android.com/tools/devices/managing-avds.html

Where is my Emulator...
- Select AVD Manager and select the AVD which we just created. "Click Start".
- Click Launch in the pop up window.
- Android OS will start on your PC. It is much like the android mobile on your computer with screen and keyboard.

Your Android Emulator is ready on your laptop. It is much like any other Android Device (mobile) and you can simply install the apps just like your phone. You will see Google Play store from which you can download as many apps as you like.

Facing any difficulty, not able to run the emulator. Just let us know and we will help you out.
